Facts & Info - Selder & Co's Linseed oil paint
We have a complete range of high-quality, traditional linseed oil paint from Selder & Co's linseed oil factory. The linseed oil paint can be used both indoors and outdoors, where you want a semi-matt or semi-glossy surface that is durable. It works well on both on plastered and wooden facades, sheet metal, iron and wood components. The paint is ready to be used and does not need to be diluted with neither oil nor solvents.
The binder in the linseed oil paint is Selder's refined linseed oil. It gives the paint unique properties regarding drying time, gloss, weather resistance, mold resistance and hardening.
The paint can be mixed in any color so if you have an NCS color code, etc. or a color sample, just pop in to our store and we will mix your specific color. We also have some period style standard colors that is already blended.
We offer the paint in three sizes: 0.45 liter, 0.9 liter or 4.5 liter. So, if you're unsure about a color, it's a good idea to order a small can and test it. A color is always different on a computer screen compared to reality. We always recommend either bringing a physical color sample or ordering a sample can and testing the paint before using it on the whole facade or the new kitchen cabinets.
Additional advantages of linseed oil paint from Selder & Co.
• Dries within 24 hours at 20°C and normal airing (with good ventilation it dries faster).
• Fastens hard through penetration into the material on clean and dry surfaces.
• Hardens even when the paint has been applied more generously than necessary. Low risk of skin drying.
• The paint doesn't flake. Maintain by applying our oil when the paint shows signs of chalking. This usually occurs after 10-30 years depending on the amount of UV radiation.
• It breathes, i.e., it releases water vapor but shuts out water in liquid form.
• Mold-free thanks to zinc-based primer and binder-free from nutrients.
• Suitable for painting on wood, concrete, stone, metal, plastics and glass.
• Water-free, frost-resistant and weather-resistant.
• Lasting and well-covering. The density varies between 1.6-1.8 kg/liter (3.53-3.97 lbs/L) depending on the pigment.
• Works with professional spray painting tools.
• Manufactured under good industrial hygiene, ensuring that the paint always hold the same color.
WORKING INSTRUCTIONS
Preparatory work
Make sure that the surface has a moisture ratio of no more than 20% and is clean and dry. The temperature should not go below 5°C throughout the day. The relative humidity should also not exceed 80% (when there is fog). At lower temperatures and higher humidity, the drying time will be longer, and the final result may not be optimal.
Do not paint surfaces outdoors where there is risk for dew (early morning and late evening). The paint does not adhere to damp surfaces. Painting in direct sunlight, on the other hand, is excellent.
Natural untreated wooden surfaces, especially exposed areas outdoors, should be oil-treated before painting. This will prolong the life of the surface.
Before the priming starts, twig marks, resin marks and nail hats must be sealed with schellac. Since the linseed oil paint lets out water vapor, nails can bleed rust through the paint
Putty after the surface has been grounded.
Painting
Stir the paint properly. The paint contains very heavy pigments and is simultaneously fluid, so some sedimentation may occur. Use good-quality brushes with stiff natural brush hairs that allow relatively tight brush pressure without too much spring.
The paint is applied in even and covering layers but not directly fat layers.
Apply all paint layers equally. Sloppy priming will be visible in the final result.
Apply a first stroke with our zinc-based linseed oil primer "Grund" to make the paint result strong, protective and resistant to mold.
After the primer has dried properly, two layers of semi-gloss or semi-matte linseed oil paint are applied in the selected color. It is important that the paint is completely dry between the strokes. Applying paint on non-dried paint will make the surface matte even with a half-shiny paint. This phenomenon can of course be utilized if you want to achieve a matte surface quickly.
