Facts & Info - Paint with linseed oil paint
It does not have to be difficult to paint with linseed oil, just follow our four-step job description for a beautiful final result! The paint from Selder & Co found in our online store is a high-quality and traditional linseed oil paint that can be mixed in any color.
1. Seal twig marks, resin marks and nail hats with shellac before painting to protect against bleed of resin and rust. Pour some shellac in a container and use a simple brush in a smaller size. Apply as smoothly as possible.
2. Allow the shellac to dry. It is paintable after 30-60 minutes. Particularly difficult twigs may need to be treated more than once.
3. Next, use our zinc-based Lin oil primer "Grund" for a strong and protective end result that also is resistant to mold. Primer should always be used, regardless of whether the surface has been painted before. It can be used for most surfaces both indoors and outdoors.
4. When the primer has cured properly, it is time to apply two even and cohesive layers of semi-gloss or semi-matte linseed oil paint in the chosen color. Do not dilute the paint, just paint "straight out of the container." Make sure the paint is completely dry between the strokes. Our linseed oil has a drying time of 24 hours.
Note that linseed oil contains linseed oil, and that rags and other fibrous materials herefore can self-ignite. To be on the safe side, we recommend soaking the rags into water and putting them in plastic bags, or burning them.
