Selder's Linseed Oil Paint
With Selder's linseed oil paint you get a durable and fine result that lasts year in and year out, when you paint according to the following instructions:
- Make sure the surface is dry - do not paint on damp surfaces, if there is a risk of rain or if the daytime temperature drops below 5 ° C. Ensure good ventilation.
- Mix the paint well - start by scraping up all the pigment from the bottom of the jar. Stir until the color appears well blended. If you stir with a stick and not with a rotating paint mixer, then close the lid and shake the jar after. The colors should not be diluted with any additional solvent. The paint is anhydrous and is destroyed if diluted with water, paint directly from the jar!
- Primer and finish - First use the Linseed oil primer "Grund" which is then when the primer has cured properly, it is time to apply two even and cohesive layers of semi-gloss or semi-matte linseed oil paint in the chosen color. Paint all layers carefully with covering but not thick layers, ie allow the paint to dry thoroughly (at least 24h) between the coats. Work out the paint with light brush strokes until the paint layer is even and opaque but not thick. Repeat when paint no longer comes from the brush.
- Maintenance - if the color becomes dull and pale or chalky, you can apply a thin layer of Linseed Varnish "Fernissa" on the clean and dry color surface. The oil replaces the binder that the UV radiation has broken down and the surface regains its original color and shine.
This linseed oil paint is based on refined linseed oils which gives the unique attributes in terms of drying time, hardening, weather resistance and mildew resistance. This linseed oil paint is characterized by low viscosity and high weight, which provides an easy to apply yet well opaque color without the need for dilution. The density varies between 1.8-2.2 kg per liter which ensures high proportion of pigments and long durability.
General about linseed oil paint: Linseed oil paint is used both
indoors and outdoors, and can be used on such diverse materials such as
wood, steel, plaster and glass. It is important that you paint thin
coats when you paint with linseed oil. Apply the paint with a dense and
good brush. The paint provides a tough and durable surface that is also
open to diffusion ( "breathing"), which is important when working with
old buildings. The linseed oil, the paint's binder, is photochromic
meaning it yellows slightly on surfaces that get too little daylight.
The photochromic process is though reversible so that a surface that has
yellowed regain its original color once it is exposed to daylight.
Note: Linseed oil paint contains linseed oil. Rags and other fibrous
material can ignite spontaneously. Soak rags in water and put in a
plastic bag and seal well. Alternatively, burn the rags.
